What do OM ships do?

OM Ships - Bringing Knowledge, Help and Hope.

So what do the ships do when they go into port? What are the main activities?

A key part of the work of the ships is to bring the world's largest floating bookshops into ports where there is a great need and hunger for literature.

Logos Hope will carry over 500,000 books on board with a wide range of educational books, children's books and study books as well as Christian books and the world's best seller - The Bible. In many ports, thousands of people will queue up to come on board and buy the books. Due to many contacts with different book charities, the ship is able to give away high quality text books for just the shipping cost.

As well as bringing knowledge through the book shop, the ships bring help in the form of aid and practical help. This includes doing practical work at orphanages, schools and hospitals in needy countries and giving aid and supplies to those who need it most.

The OM Ships also bring Hope to people around the world through the good news of the gospel. Teams from the ship visit schools, hospitals, prisons, orphanages and churches. At the same time many people visit the ship for conferences aimed on subjects as diverse as Aids, Relationships, Marriage and youth events.
Another key part of the ship's role is to provide an opportunity for a community of young people from across the world to demonstrate how different cultures can live and work together. The ships have been described as a floating united nations.
